We are pleased to announce that Wayne Neurology is now
accepting new patients for Functional Neurologic Disorder
Functional Neurological disorder is a problem with the functioning of the Nervous System and how the brain and body send and receive signals.
While the symptoms may vary from person to person in general, the disorder affects movement, and some foundational functions like sight, hearing, swallowing, and these symptoms can’t be intentionally produced or controlled.
The cause of Functional neurological disorder (FND) is unknown, but it can be triggered by a different neurological disorder or a reaction to stress, or trauma both psychological and physical, though a clear trigger can’t always be identified. Other things like stroke or multiple sclerosis affect the brain's structure, but FND affects how the brain itself functions.
As stated before, symptoms may vary depending on the type of FND, and they are significant enough to cause impairment and warrant medical evaluation.
